Train Station

The Train Station Revitalization Project was birthed out of many community conversations and consultations conducted by Suzanne Veenstra, Community Animator under the Niagara Prosperity Initiative. The St. Catharines Train Station was identified as an area of great concern for Western Hill residents, noting the upkeep of the surrounding lands and the reoccurring incidences of graffiti and vandalism. The residents of Western Hill wanted to create a change in their community and thought a good place to start would be the Train Station.
Out of the two community meetings and numerous public conversations, three projects were suggested: a mural in the front of the station, a community garden in the back and a platform garden to the side. 13 committed residents stepped forward to take charge of the Train Station Revitalization Project and progress each individual project.
As the project was taking shape it came to our attention that the City’s Planning department identified the St. Catharines Train Station as an area for improvement in the Western Hill Revitalization Study. With this strong documentation behind the project we moved confidently ahead in pursuing the Train Station Revitalization Project as we were sure it would be well supported by the greater community.
