Garbage Cans

In the second week of July the efforts of West Park Secondary School students will be seen on the streets of West St. Catharines with the release of 10 new colourfully painted garbage barrels. During exams, papers and final classes grade 11 and 12 students took time to give back to the community and partner with the revitalization efforts happening in their neighbourhood.

Under the artistic direction of art teacher Liz DeLuca, students chose historic and cultural images that they felt reflected the Western Hill community and creatively painted them on tin, drum style garbage cans, donated by the City of St. Catharines. Images of the Burgoyne Bridge, the old Shickluna shipyard and Rodman Hall, to name a few, all make up a collage of cans that will not only beautify the streets but bring pride to the Western Hill community.

Keep your eye out for these burst of colour and creativity on the streets of your community.
